COVID-19 pandemic has changed people's food shopping and eating habits; with the lockdowns causing food scarcity at certain points, sold out grocery delivery slots, and rise of takeaway ordering.
According to the most recent report, the takeaway trend continues.
That has also opened a market for speedy food delivery services, such as Gorillas, Uber Eats, Deliveroo, Weezy, Zapp, and getting essential groceries for a quick meal has become very easy.
With the leisure facilities and public spaces opening up, many people are looking to go back to the healthier living and shed the extra 'pandemic weight' they've gained.
SuperCook app suggests recipes according to the ingredients the user already has at home, which reduces food waste and saves money on takeaways.
MyFitnessPal app allow users to import a recipe from anywhere on the internet (but not from an image).
'Diet Profile' can enable users to shop and make recipes according to their dietary needs, such as gluten-free, vegan, lactose-free or low-calorie, as well as suggest substitutions.
The app would also allow to scan and import recipes from online blogs and recipe sites, not just by scanning printed recipes.
Connecting the main Sainsbury's app with the Chop-Chop app or other apps delivering Sainsbury's groceries, would make the last-minute meals much easier to make.

Connecting to MyFitnessPal and other calorie counters would help users track calorie intake.

Sainsbury's Chop Chop, Gorillas, Deliveroo and Uber Eats offer quick grocery delivery

Desired Outcome
The ease of getting the right ingredients will encourage customers to eat healthier and order less takeaway, which has gone up during the pandemic, as well as enable spur-of-the-moment meals by using Sainsbury's Chop-Chop or grocery delivery via Uber Eats or Deliveroo.
The feature where users can cook according to what they've already got from their most recent Sainsbury's order will hopefully reduce food waste.
